MAUREEN WEBB - Illusions of Security: Global Surveillance and Democracy in the Post-9/11 World - How well are our national security measures working? Maureen Webb says the latest incident in Times Square shows the surveillance systems that have been implemented since 9/11 are affecting ordinary citizens but not real terrorists. "Tragedy in Times Square was averted not by the 82 cameras monitoring the streets in the area, but by an alert citizen who called the police and got the bomb squad there. The break in the case came, not from some futuristic data mining program, but through old-fashioned police work. Had an old-fashioned all-points alert been relied on to close the borders to the suspect, it might have worked better than the no-fly system with its swollen list, said to contain at various times between 44,000 and 1,000,000 names." Webb says the list has become so unwieldy it can't work in an urgent situation. Webb's book is "Illusions of Security: Global Surveillance and Democracy in the Post-9/11 World." - www.amazon.ca

CARON B GOODE - Kids Who See Ghosts - When children see ghosts, what's a parent to do? Moms and dads ask themselves, "Does my child possess unique gifts, or is my kid possessed? Will this be a one-time, 'weird' event, or is my child destined to be haunted for life? Does my child need psychological help or some kind of meds? Should I believe what my child reports even if I don't believe in ghosts?" When kids report ghost sightings, parent's reactions may range from feeling paralyzed with fear to being curious and supportive. If their children are scared by encounters with the spirit world, parents naturally fret about how to best help their kids through this fear. And this can be a challenge because in some cases fear can be so intense that it causes the child - and sometimes the parent, too - to become physically sick from it. If, on the other hand, children feel open and comfortably connected to the world of ghosts, parents may feel less worried - or even more alarmed. Either way, parents are sure to be perplexed about how to proceed. That's why there's a need for Caron B. Goode's Kids Who See Ghosts: How to Guide Them Through Fear (Weiser Books, June 2010). In a volume that is enlightening about the frightening, Goode empowers parents to use exceptional thinking to break through fear. She urges them to be avid listeners and to start the right kind of conversations early. And she provides questionnaires, practical exercises, and child-friendly activities to help parents gently guide children along a journey to emotional empowerment. Kids Who See Ghosts also offers insights from some of the field's most well known names: Lynn Andrews, Bruce Lipton, Brad Steiger, P.M.H. Atwater, and Donna Seebo.- www.kidswhoseeghosts.com

CONNIE A HUFT - Know Thine Enemy: A Guide to Intelligent Deception - Connie has appeared on Internationally Syndicated Television, and National Radio Broadcasts as well as written feature articles for popular Web E-zines, pertaining to understanding the Paranormal from a Christian perspective. Connie is the most ignorant Christian of them all-well she used to be. How do you explain to someone that you have demons coming out of your closet every night? When Connie was 20, she was the victim of witchcraft; a crafty spell, which nearly cost Connie her salvation and her life (and yes, she portrayed herself as a "good" white witch). When she began to unravel the truth of this encounter and other mysteries of the paranormal so prevalent in our society, Connie uncovered an ancient tapestry woven into the very fabric of our DNA; a malicious, cunning, manipulation to our senses, delighting our palette, tickling our ears with a secret knowledge, promising power beyond our hopes, drawing us ever away from a notion of an Almighty God. Deception of mammoth proportions, masked behind an altruistic veil of truth, science, medicine and the welfare of mankind and our planet, and paralyzing fear. Few-recognize we are being manipulated. Many are not even aware it's happening! - www.christianparanormalanswers.com
