My family and I witnessed these strange amber lights in Tucson on our way home from dinner. We know these objects were not far from us because my parents live on the other side of what Tucsonans refer to as "Cat Mountain" so they could not have been too far away at the height they were flying or they would have been obstructed by the mountain.

These object were silent. Living in this part of the country we often hear fighter jets from the Air Force base, but we are used to that and it is always recognizable and very loud. This was not that... Also occasionally we see squadrons of choppers fly in this area fairly low, but they are always very loud as well and have a distinct sound. The objects we saw tonight were silent and moving across the sky very fast. The objects that were paired were flying closer together than I have ever seen any kind of jet or plane fly at that speed, and they never separated or drifted apart from a uniform distance.

They moved from south to north and then one by one or in a pair they vanished never to reappear in pretty much the same place. They did NOT fly out of sight, or go behind any cloud cover. There were no clouds this late in the evening and they never reappeared.

These were not flashing lights, you can see about half way I think in the video after I zoomed in a little bit that there was a plane in the distance with "typical" flashing plane lights and then you could tell the ones we were seeing were larger and not flashing.

Not sure what we were seeing, but I never really believed in this sort of thing until tonight. Glad I had my phone to record.

I've been trying to decide if this UFO news item I came across today is real or a clever put-on, but either way it gave me a chuckle.

I was just browsing the UFO news, as I do from time to time, and I saw an article at OpenMinds.com that said something about the Air Force investigating a "crashed UFO" in the Arizona desert. I did a double-take, not because I thought it was an exciting story but because it created the cognitive dissonance that UFO stories like this so often arouse... At first glance it seems to be the kind of earth-shaking incident that should be making headlines all around the world, and yet it's not, so there's clearly something amiss... Then a closer look revealed that the story ran two months ago, so it is definitely bogus. Sadly, most UFO news stories seem to play out in this exact manner: exciting tease leads to enticing set-up leads to disappointing "denouement "and, quite often, an "oh, well, maybe next time" close.

But this time I started reading the story and the old familiar sense of cognitive dissonance appeared almost immediately...

AIR FORCE INVESTIGATES 'CRASHED UFO' IN ARIZONA DESERT (EXCITING TEASE)

The article would have us believe that a private pilot saw this thing, which looks as thought it might be about a yard across (but we don't know, because the story doesn't say), in the desert, and that was followed up by two scrambling F16s and a sheriff's helicopter investigating. (You can read the whole piece here, but don't get all excited; this really isn't The Big One). Maybe all that really did happen; maybe the military and the local law enforcement in this remote corner of the Arizona desert really are that bored.

As MUFON head Jan Harzan says in the article, If you think the federal government does not investigate UFOs - think twice. Imagine how the original report on our model would have been radioed in by that pilot. The Air Force did not hesitate. I don't think having two F16s at our crash site was a coincidence. They were sent out to observe and report back on the situation."

"But here's what really puzzles me: when an attendee of the MUFON Boot Camp reported on the experience at the MUFON website, she reported pretty much every little thing that happened over the four days, including the host's gas grill exploding -- "Chuck Modlin suffered first and second-degree burns on his lower legs when the gas tank on his grill exploded (BOOM!) as he was firing it up to grill hamburgers for our dinner prior to Thursday night's SKY WATCH" -- but she never mentioned the fact that two Air Force F16s and a Sheriff's helicopter came to investigate the phony crashed saucer that had been created for the training exercise. That seems like a significant oversight to me.

So, in the end, the article disappoints, like so many others. Come to think of it, I bet the F16s and the chopper were sent out to investigate the gas grill going BOOM...

RAYMOND YAKELEYA HAS NEVER SEEN A UFO, BUT HE BELIEVES.

The filmmaker, born in Tulita, N.W.T. (Northwest Terrotories), is collecting stories about UFO sightings in the North for a documentary.

There have been reports of sightings and encounters with extraterrestrials throughout the N.W.T. over the years, including one earlier this month in Fort Smith.

Yakeleya says there's even a UFO connection and evidence in Dene legend.

"We have in one of our legends a story about alien visitations where the chief of the alien people has requested a Dene wife, and that it happened," he said.

"I've often wondered about that, how is it possible that our people would have alien beings in our legends," he said. "One thing I do know about my people is they don't lie, they don't make things up like that."

He said he's heard many stories from elders who say they've seen UFOs out on the land. He says even though he's never experienced alien encounters, he can't discount what others say.

Yakeleya's film is tentatively called UFOs, Aliens and First Nations.

Since starting work on the project, Yakeleya has heard many people talk about alien sightings and abductions.

"If we're ever going to really understand this phenomenon we have to talk about it," he said.

Yakeleya says he and other children in residential school were shamed for sharing their culture's legends and he wants people to open up about their experiences.

"When we're sharing things it's a really poor way - if we're ever going to learn things - to shame people," he says. "It's beautiful to listen to people."

Yakeleya expects the shooting and editing will be finished this spring. Part of the challenge is illustrating the stories. He's been working on finding drawings and some photographs.

He is now filming in Alberta and hopes to visit the N.W.T. in February.
